About The Project

Cornell University is conducting a randomized trial to evaluate the efficacy of quadruple-fortified salt (QFS; iron, iodine, folic acid, vitamin B12) in women (18-49 y) and their households in Southern India. Briefly, women 18 to 49 years who are not pregnant or lactating and reside within the catchment area of our community-based research site in Southern India are screened and invited to participate in the trial.

IIHMR will assist with research field activities for the randomized efficacy trial of QFS at our research field site (AMC) in Madanapalle, Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, namely: Recruitment of additional enumerators/research assistants to assist the study team with data collection according to established study procedures. Assist with community-based recruitment and retention of women and their households in the trial. IIHMR will coordinate the delivery of salt intervention to households each month and related reporting for the trial. IIHMR will also coordinate all the field operations during the different phases of the study (i.e., screening/randomization, midpoint, and endpoint visits).

About The Project

The impact assessment aims to assess the program relevance, effectiveness, and its impact on targeted population and state needs, to assess the service provider’s compliance in accordance with the NHM guidelines and to identify the issues during the implementation of the program. The impact assessment would be carried out at Dialysis Centre, Civil Hospital, Bathinda. The interaction would be carried out with stakeholders and program beneficiaries. Filed visits would be conducted to understand the compliance in accordance with the standard guidelines. The impact evaluation would provide key insights and sustainable model to improve the program effectiveness and its impact.

About The Project

The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India has launched the second phase of the sixth round of the National Family Health Survey, popularly known as NFHS-6, with the specific goals of providing essential data on health and family welfare needed by the Central and State Governments and other stakeholders for policy formulation and also acquiring information on important emerging health and family welfare issues. The International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) Mumbai, a Deemed University and an Autonomous Organization of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, is the nodal agency for conducting the survey on behalf of the Ministry.

The Indian Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR) has been assigned as a field agency to conduct the survey in the entire Tripura. IIHMR took up the fieldwork in two stages. The first stage of fieldwork consists of mapping and listing of households in selected sample village(s)/urban block(s). This will serve as a frame for the selection of households for collecting information in prescribed survey schedules and in the second phase (main survey) across Tripura State. The fieldwork for mapping and listing in the State of Tripura has been started on 20 September 2023. In this survey, a total of 384 PSUs across the 8 districts of Tripura will be covered.

About The Project

This program focuses on underprivileged communities living in the urban slums of Bangalore in strengthening 1st 1000 days and Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD). The program aims are to 1) identify the gap and strengthen the 1st 1000 days for improved Maternal Child Health outcomes. 2) To enrol 25 children aged 6 months to 3 years in each creche, to provide nutritious food and support in the overall development (Cognitive, Language, Physical, Social, and Emotional) of the child 3) Health Literacy to parents of ECCD beneficiaries and community on 1st 1000 days viz., child growth and development, IYCF, Early Childhood Education, Food and Nutrition, WASH, Immunization, Family Planning, etc. and also to improve demand to seek healthcare from public health facilities/FLWs.

Impact of the study: 1) Overall improvement in the nutritional and health status of ECCD children 2) Improved KAP among parents, pregnant women, lactating mothers, and their spouses on 1st 1000 days, ECCD and other nutritional-related issues 3) Improved health-seeking behavior and health status among pregnant women and lactating mothers 4) Increased father’s involvement in childcare and development.

About The Project

This study has been instigated by the Karnataka Evaluation Authority, GoK, aimed to evaluate the wider impact of the Integrated Child Developmental Services (ICDS) Programme and Poshan Abhiyan among Pregnant Women, Children (0-6 years), and Adolescent Girls in the selected 18 districts of the Karnataka State. The primary objective of the evaluation is to determine and analyse the basic issues related to poor outcomes/ impact of the program in terms of malnutrition and anemia indicators- stunting, wasting, undernutrition, and anemia among women & children in the state. A cross-sectional study design is adopted. Total 390 Anganwadi centres and appox.4000 beneficiaries of the program from all 18 districts are being covered by the study. A mixed methodology is adopted to gather both quantitative and qualitative data viz., KII, FGDs, Case Studies, and Facility surveys of Anganwadi Centres to understand the program implementation, impact, and gaps regarding its outcomes.

IIHMR Bangalore is providing consultancy services with an objective to strengthen the present operations to redesign the systems, train the staffs on the latest Quality Management Practices and develop appropriate supervisory and monitoring mechanisms. Methodology to be adopted for this study is to institutionalize the NABH norms in the hospital.

About The Project

Objectives of the study are to a) to develop a standardized tool to objectively assess the quality of CHOs for management of common health conditions across HWCs b) to pilot and validate an ability assessment aptitude tool for CHOs for various functions at HWCs. Methodology: Input, processes and output framework will guide the development of the assessment tools. Mixed methodology would be adopted viz., qualitative, and quantitative data for the study. Methods of data collection includes observations, records review, Personal Interview with Patients, CHOs, ASHAs and Medical Officers. Each study instrument will be assigned across thematic areas of General Infrastructure, Statutory Compliances, Clinical Quality and Documentation, Safety, Training, Inventory Management, and Clinical Governance. A scoring criterion will be developed to quantitatively score the response on an ordinal scale enabling a composite index of quality and ability through 360-degree assessment.
