Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) are considered as robust research designs and placed at the top of the evidence pyramid. RCT design is commonly employed in the drug development process and is often regarded as a resource-intensive study design. Investor initiated RCTs are less popularized, yet the most reported study design is found across literature databases like PubMed, Medline, Embase. Public health interventions and digital interventions can be tested for efficacy using the RCT study design. The medical, research and public health coursework often reserve the detailed learnings of RCTs citing the design is resource intensive. The methodology and processes under the RCT study design are highly flexible and can be used in resource-intensive settings, non-clinical settings, community settings. Researchers in Development Sector, Public Health Sector can benefit from understanding the core concepts of RCT design and conduct, improving the research output and quality for evidence from the development sector.
Objectives:
1. To understand the theory of Randomized Controlled Trials and methodologies of conducting RCTs in non-clinical settings
