A Comparative Study of Clinical Data Abstraction Center (CDAC) Validation Process at a Medical Technology company. – Dr Modupalli Alekhya

A Comparative Study of Clinical Data Abstraction Center is carried out to compare the pre and post abstraction process done by the Medical Technologies. It is a retrospective study, based on secondary data analysis of four years data of CMS Validation Process for both outpatient facility and inpatient facility validation. CMS randomly selects facilities for the validation process in the U.S Healthcare that happens every quarter in one year. Out of 45 facilities in the year 2015 total 22 facilities got randomly selected for the validation process and total 15 facilities were scored 100 percent and 7 facilities were scored less than 75 percent.
In the year 2016 total 32 facilities got randomly selected and total 20 facilities scored 100 percent and 12 facilities scored less than 75 percent in which abstraction process were not carried out by the organization. Since 2017, the organization has started abstraction process, in the year 2017 total 32 facilities got randomly selected and23 facilities were scored 100 percent and 9 facilities were scored less than 75 percent. In the year 2018 total 35 facilities got randomly selected and 31 facilities were scored 100 percent and 4 facilities were scored less than 75 percent. In the year 2019 only 2 quarters had been included in the study and 18 facilities got randomly selected and 17 facilities were scored 100 percent and one facility were scored less than 75 percent, because the validation is still in process. Total 39 facilities scored 100 percent before abstraction process was outsourced to our organization and after abstraction process was outsourced to us. A total 71 facilities scored 100 percent, 19 facilities scored less than 75 percent before abstraction process and after abstraction process was outsourced to our organization a total of 14 facilities scored less than 75 percent. For better improvement of the abstraction process, a process for the peer review of case validation and failures can also be implemented to improve the accuracy and inter reliability of data abstraction. Additionally, the abstraction team can review all selected charts prior to submission for CMS validation for accuracy, ensuring all appropriate documentation needed to fulfill a request is always included. Since the abstraction process is carried out by us various strategies had been implemented to improve the abstraction process.
